"Let's Hear a Story …"
A Pathfinder on Reading to Children and Storytelling
The authors of this pathfinder are:
Susan BartoneClaire Basney Adina Lack For more information about any of us, click on our names.
Scope of the Pathfinder
As the name implies, a pathfinder
charts a path through a huge terrain. Given the nature of the Information Age - that there often is an overabundance of information - a pathfinder reflects a need to select and present excellent examples of research and study in a given field. In our case, the fields are storytelling for children and reading aloud to children.
Whether you are a teacher who plans storytelling events and readings; a librarian searching for information on the values and implications of successful programs; a parent hoping to get your child excited about reading; or if you are just interested in this topic, feel free to take a look at our web site. We hope you discover some exciting resources.
This pathfinder is developed as a group project for the class,
Internet Applications (INLS 181).
Division of Labor
Claire has done the majority of HTML coding and web design thus far, and the other group members will be joining her in these efforts throughout the project.
Each of us is responsible for selecting resources in certain categories. The duties are divided as follows:
Susan: Web sites, essays
Claire: Journals, articles
Adina: Books, reference materials
Technological and Media Goals
Because this is an educational site for academic and professional research, we are not emphasizing graphics and multimedia. Our page will index the various types of resources (Reference, Journals, Web sites) with links to the designated sections. We will have text links to our recommended web sites. We will also have a link to our group's top ten recommended picture books.
We recognize that many students, teachers, and others may want to view our web site from home using modems. Our goal is to produce a web site accessible to these people. We will eliminate extraneous media and graphics as they would slow down the delivery of information to modem-users.
Our plan is to design the project using HTML and perhaps a web authoring tool such as Front Page or Cold Fusion. Other features may be .gif files, animated .gif files, and image maps.
